Meet Jaidee & Jola
With Jaffa and Jaidee
Jaffa and Jaidee
Jaidee and Jola came into care with Jaffa, and although they were smaller, they quickly became inseparable. Being their Mummy was such a joy. My heart and home were full. Waking them up in the morning was always a delight as they nuzzled into me, drinking their bottles. Jaffa hated being alone and would often hop into bed with one of her sisters. It became a game of hide and seek some mornings to find her.
Jaffa, Jola and Jaidee shared an unbreakable bond, often seen hooning through the bush together and doing zoomies with infectious joy. Their days were filled with adventures and explorations, uncovering every nook and cranny of their bush home.
Jaidee, the more reckless of the two, had a habit of diving headfirst into the fun without always watching where she was going. One sunny day, in the midst of an especially thrilling chase, Jaidee took a tumble and broke her arm. Though it could have slowed anyone else down, Jaidee wasn't one to let a little injury dampen her spirits.
We stopped for lunch at the Denmark River after a visit to the vet for Jaidee’s broken arm. She has never seen so much water.
With her arm wrapped up, she continued to romp and play alongside Jaffa.. The duo became even closer as Jaffa stuck by Jaidee, making sure her friend still enjoyed every moment. Together, they shared countless memories and laughter, proving that true friendship and a zest for life can overcome any obstacle. Jola always looked on quietly and joined in the antics.
Every morning, I would take them out for an hour and watch, sometimes holding my breath as these full-of-life girls explored the bush that was their home. Jola was a little quieter than the other two but really enjoyed those runs and happy hoppy side-kicks. After their adventures, the girls would follow me back to the joey enclosure where they would get their bottles and grain.
This particular morning, they all looked at me with those pleading eyes, asking for one more hoon around the pen. How could I resist? I gave them the nod, and they took off, their laughter echoing through the trees. Within minutes, Jaffa and Jaidee were back, but Jola was nowhere to be seen. A sinking feeling set in as I went searching for her.
I found her lying on the ground, her small body still warm but lifeless. Her feet had clipped a fallen log, and as she stumbled, she broke her neck. Devastation overwhelmed me as I cuddled her broken yet still warm body for a very long time
Tragedy struck again 10 days later when, during a zooming chase through the joey enclosure, Jaidee hit her head and broke her neck. Jaffa was inconsolable. She stood by her fallen friend, her heart shattered into a thousand pieces. The joy and laughter they once shared seemed like a distant memory, replaced by an overwhelming sadness. No longer would they explore the bush together, no longer would they share their carefree moments of pure exhilaration. Jaffa's world would never be the same without Jaidee, her beloved partner in adventure.
So within ten days, Jaffa lost both her buddies—the ones she grew up with, played with, shared her bed with. She was alone, and it was up to me now to be the buddy she needed. She came back inside again, and we became inseparable. Our bond grew stronger as we navigated through the grief together, finding solace in each other's company.
The sadness that hit both Jaffa and me was profound and deep. We mourned the loss of Jola and Jaidee together, sharing a bond in our grief. The memories of their joyous antics and the love we had for them kept us going, but the heartache was always there.
Our bond grew stronger as we navigated through the grief together, finding solace in each other's company. The journey of healing was long and filled with moments of reflection and tears, but also with the cherished memories of the beautiful times we had with Jola and Jaidee.
There is, however, a silver lining to Jaffa's journey. She has grown up to be the most wonderful and special kangaroo I could have hoped for. Her compassionate and caring nature is a joy to watch as she tends to the little babies that continue to arrive for love and care at Amaris. Jaffa's nurturing instincts shine through as she gently interacts with the new arrivals, providing them with comfort, a sense of security, and gently teaching the ways of the wild.
She is now a confident girl who has blossomed into a loving and protective figure for the younger joeys. Her resilience and strength serve as an inspiration to all who encounter her. Jaffa's presence is a testament to the power of love and the enduring bonds of friendship. She proudly tells everyone, "My name is Jaffa," and stands as a symbol of hope, courage, and unwavering support for the joeys who need her.
Jaffa’s journey, though marked by loss and heartache, has also been filled with growth, healing, and an unbreakable spirit. Her story is a reminder that even in the face of profound sadness, there is always room for love, compassion, and new beginnings.
